Questions to ask a venue before you book a kids’ party

A venue's party page tells you the headline offer. These questions cover the details that usually cause surprises. Copy them into an email, or keep them open when you call.

Price and what is included

• What exactly does the package price include: activity time, room, food, drinks, socks, host, invitations?
• Is the price per child or for a set number of children? What does each extra child cost?
• Is there a minimum number of children?
• Are tax, service charges or gratuity added on top?
• Are weekend and weekday prices different?

Timing

• How long is the party in total, and how is the time split between the activity and the room?
• When can we arrive to set up, and when must we leave?
• Is the room private or shared?

Food and cake

• Can we bring our own cake? Is there a cake fee?
• Can we bring other food? How do you handle allergies?
• Are candles, plates, cutlery and a cake knife provided?

Safety and rules

• What are the minimum ages or heights for the activities?
• Does every child need a signed waiver? Can parents fill it in online?
• How many staff will be with the group? Do adults need to stay?
• Do adults pay to enter or join in?

Booking, deposits and cancellations

• How much is the deposit, and is it refundable?
• When do you need the final headcount?
• What happens if a child is sick on the day: can we reduce numbers?
• Can we reschedule, and with how much notice?

Extras

• What add-ons are there (goody bags, arcade cards, extra time), and what do they cost?
• Can we bring decorations or balloons?
• Is there parking, and is it free?
